Frank Grey
Frank was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He lived there with his three siblings until December of 1979. His parents returned to Brevard County, Florida after his father’s work supporting the moon launches at the downrange tracking station was complete.
Having experienced his grandfather’s great love of music, Frank joined the band in 7th grade. He wanted to play the trumpet, but his band director told him his teeth were better for the horn (or perhaps no other kids signed up to play the horn). It was a great choice, because within a few short years Frank earned chairs in the County and All-State bands. Frank began studying under Pat Joslyn, the principal horn in the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. During his senior year he auditioned for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, earning the principal horn position for the 1984/85 season.
Frank joined the Brevard Symphony Orchestra when he started high school, and continued playing with them while studying music performance at Florida State University with Dr. William Capps. He later transferred to the University of Central Florida where he completed a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. However, he continued to study horn performance with Arnold Mascaro, Principal Horn of the Florida Symphony Orchestra.
Frank has been the principal horn for many ensembles including the Cocoa Village Playhouse, the Space Coast Symphony, the Central Florida Lyric Opera, the Space Coast Choir, the Coastal Brass, and the orchestra of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island.
