David Ewing is the Melbourne Municipal Band principal trumpet player. In addition to trumpet, he plays cornet, flugelhorn, and baritone. As a child, he used to listen to his older brother play trumpet; he loved the sound. When he was old enough, he picked up his brother`s trumpet and found he could play it easily. He went on to earn a BM in Music Performance and BME in Music Education from the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts (now the University of the Arts). He studied under Anthony Marchione and Gerard Schwarz.

David is a mechanically minded individual, but true to his musical background, he loves to teach music and is a private trumpet instructor. David plays on a regular basis with the International Symphonic Wind Orchestra, the Utica Symphony Orchestra, the Colgate University Orchestra, the Chenango Brass Quintet, the Eastern Philharmonic, the Space Coast Pops, the Melbourne Municipal Band, the Swingtime Jazz Band, the Sunshine Brass Quintet, the Space Coast Winds, the Central Florida Winds, the Central Florida Lyric Opera, the North Jersey Symphonic Wind Orchestra, and the Coastal Brass. He also performs regularly on a freelance basis.

David lives in Rockledge with his wife, Donna (who plays euphonium and horn); his Maltese poodles, Teddy Bear and Sassy; and two fish tanks. He has a son, Derric (who plays trumpet); a daughter-in-law, Amanda; and his four grandchildren, Seth, Logan, Sariah, and Emma Rose.
